Lorca City Council asked the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture to maintain aid to the area of nuts in shell (25/01/2010)

The municipal groups support the motion of Councillor for Agriculture, Angel Mecca, which also requests a conversion plan state of the nut plantations as well as a comprehensive volume control and sanitary quality of imports.

The Full Council of Lorca has this morning approved a motion from Councillor for Agriculture, Angel Mecca, which prompted the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water of the Autonomous Community maintain the current complement of Community aid to the surface for nuts.

In this sense it is vital to maintain a differentiated support to professional farmers as it is today.

The motion also requests also implement a restructuring plan for state plantations for starting nuts and planting of new varieties, in order to modernize the productive structures and renew those varieties are unsuited to the demands of consumers.

The agreement also provides for the application to the competent authorities to fully control the volume and sanitary quality of imports, as well as the imported product mixes state product, through the control of the vital need for traceability and labeling.

In this sense, it is necessary to improve inspection and quality control of the border and points of sale, particularly with regard to origin labeling as security and defense for the consumer and the producer.

In this sense, the House asks that those administrations implemented without slackness or hesitation current legislation and to increase their efforts in protecting Spanish nuts and almonds in particular.

The Municipal Corporation application to the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, which is strongly supportive of those instruments to safeguard the quality of Spanish products, in general, or by indications of quality of production areas particularly in the context of the need to focus on quality and differentiation of the nuts of the State to the production of third countries.

The plenary session also requires these agencies to promote research in both the production and the processing, marketing and improving the quality of the products with the participation of the sector.

In this sense, it is essential to an orderly channel for the transfer of results to industry through professional organizations and federations of cooperatives, and must strengthen and enhance research networks and facilitate the establishment of agreements between the producing sector and research centers in order to improve the supply of the variety of available and could lead to a reduction in acquisition costs for the farmer.

Finally, it requests the Central and Regional Government continue to support the work of those organizations, producers are showing their involvement in defending the interests of farmers and improving the competitiveness of our productions, developing the mechanisms necessary to differentiate aid to producer organizations in light of this commitment.
