The City of Lorca increased citizen participation channels creating the Municipal Council on the Environment and Sustainability (19/02/2010)

This consultative and recommendations to Local Government, set in the implementation of Local Agenda 21 will be represented local political groups, all the neighborhood associations, unions, environmentalists, the Federation of Municipalities, agricultural and business organizations, housewives home, the three universities in the region, the local police, Limusa, Aguas de Lorca, Iberdrola, "Lorca Taller del Tiempo" and technicians in the area.

Councillors Sustainable Development and Environment of the City of Lorca, Francisco Garcia and Melchor Morales, announced that next Wednesday, February 24 at 10:00 pm in the Board of Commissions of the Town Planning Department, will be established a new body to increase citizen participation: the Municipal Council on the Environment and Sustainability, which is created in the process of implementation of the Aalborg +10 commitments and Local Agenda 21.

Garcia explained that "the City is adapting its organization to increase the means of reception of proposals for the town's social organizations to improve the quality of life for our neighbors, respecting the environment."

This line will launch this new advisory body, the bedrock of guidelines, with a range of recommendations for Local Government bodies.

This Council is chaired by the Mayor, being Councillor Vice President of Environment and members Councillor for Sustainable Development, a councilor from each of the groups of the corporation, a technician with the Directorate General of Planning, Evaluation and Control Environmental Autonomous Region and a representative of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region.

In addition, the full Board may seek a representative from each municipality's neighborhood associations and other UGT, CCOO, CSIF, Ecologists in Action in the Region, ANSE, Greenpeace, the Housewives' Association, along with the Universities of Murcia, Cartagena and Polytechnic UCAM.

There will also be representatives of COAG, ACEGAS, UPA, AFAJ, CECLOR, Chamber of Commerce of Lorca, Iberdrola, Aguas de Lorca, Limusa, local police and "Lorca Taller del Tiempo", and five technicians from the Department of Environment, Development Sustainable Development and Citizenship.

All representations will be made without any compensation.

However, the Council has an open-ended, so anytime you can integrate new members and specifically, the first session have been invited to other people and entities that can provide a constructive view on the topic, which is the Action Plan 2010-11, which will then be transferred to the Governing Board of the City Council and the plenary for discussion and approval

Morales explained that "in order to achieve greater operational, the Council could work in plenary, sectoral panels and working groups, established according to the lines of work and priorities for action to check the council."

"The Municipal Council of Environment and Sustainability is the body of discussion and suggestions which will encourage social organizations and initiatives and report on these two areas to be discussed in the decision-making municipal and propose joint solutions to problems sector, collaborate in research and development of programs and projects ... "Melchor Morales concluded.
