The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, today inaugurated the work of removing the level crossing at Santa Clara Avenue, located between stations Sutullena Lorca and Lorca-San Diego.

In this regard, the Minister stated that "the performance, with an investment of 1.6 billion euros from the regional government, marks a significant change in the pattern of the municipality, as the traffic rearrangement Santa Clara Avenue , which surrounds the town of Lorca in the area east, traffic clears out of Lorca to Murcia, achieving a significant improvement in communication in the municipality. "

The adviser added that "thanks to these activities, whose construction began last May, improving the traffic on this railroad crossing, as the works allow vehicles to move continuously and pedestrians enjoy step itself and greenery. "

The work consisted in the construction of a low pass intended for rail traffic, creating a pedestrian and urban integration environment between the river wall Guadalentín and Santa Clara Avenue, through the creation of green and recreation areas.

Project Description

The passage for the road has been solved with a reinforced concrete box 25 meters long, 10 feet clear width and 4.5 meters in height, with a two-lane carriageway width of 3.50 meters , two shoulders of 0.50 m and sides of a sidewalk three feet wide each.

In turn, the construction of pedestrian crossing was carried out by depressing the space between the frame designed for road traffic and the wall of division of Santa Clara Avenue.

The walkway is accessible from both sides by gently sloping ramps that make up a large space within the environment.

The works also included the urban integration of the space between the river wall Guadalentín and Santa Clara Avenue and the realignment of traffic in urban areas adjacent to the underpass.

This action is part of the agreement signed by the regional government and the Ministry of Public Works for the elimination of level crossings.

Under these agreements, the regional government has eliminated a total of 36 crossings in the region to promote safe mobility for all citizens.
