The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar has announced that it has begun work on consolidation, value and suitability for the sightseeing tour of the ruins of the church of Santa Maria, located in the neighborhood of the same name, which have an investment of close to 800,000 euros.
Jodar has reported that "the beginning of these works is a reality and will last about seven months, so that subsequently the sightseeing could begin this landmark temple, which contribute to the recovery of a very important our heritage and boosting tourism in the districts of Lorca. "
The mayor has stated that "the church of Santa Maria is an important visual focus within the network profile and monumental city, and thus fulfilling our election commitments, we include this work in the Municipal Investment Plan."
The municipal government has begun implementing these projects funded by the city of Lorca, Feder Funds, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Autonomous Region, through the Tourism Promotion Plan, following Basic design guidelines for Implementation of consolidation and adaptation for the sightseeing tour of the Church of Santa Maria de Lorca Tourist Consortium commissioned by the "Lorca Taller del Tiempo, and designed by the architects of Lorca Isabel María Hernández, Jeronimo Granados and Francisco José Fernández for an amount of 30,000 €.
The works are being carried out by a character lorquina and are protective, preventive and recovery-oriented original state of the pieces, which will be used for traditional materials and compatible with the factories and to consolidate elements.
Within the recovery work will be carried out cleaning, clearance and adequacy of the building, repair and structural reinforcement, including foundations of the most unstable, reconstruction of damaged parts and repair of bows and other actions.
This will use different methods for cleaning, by state and type of materials will be removed degrading organisms that may be material, will improve the cohesion of the treaty, and waterproofing work will be carried.
Jódar Francis explained, moreover, provides for the restoration of the main entrance, with the recovery and consolidation of materials and architectural elements, shall be conditioned interior of the ship and consolidate the stone vault.
The project includes the recovery of the dome of the dressing room, altar and murals, as well as the outer packaging, which even includes plumbing and masonry, and location information panels on the church.
The intervention aims at the monument, as well as their conservation, promote cultural and tourist use to know and understand the history of the monument.
The Mayor has stated that this is a performance which for years required urgent decisions to not continue to deteriorate.
Represents a step toward comprehensive rehabilitation which will take place under the Urban Community Initiative uptown co-financed by the City Council and the European Union.
Improving the historical legacy of the districts
These works are part of a program of rehabilitation of the historic city and especially from the districts.
Specifically, it is expected that in the coming months to restore the Chapel House in San Clemente and the city plans to start the recovery of the church of San Juan.
In addition, the Consistory already have ideas for projects to restore the church of San Pedro.
