During the course of it has been held by the General Assembly of the Spanish Network of Cities for the bike which Lorca is a founding member.

The 3rd Congress of the Bicycle involving experts from fields as diverse as urban planning, urban mobility, traffic and road safety, tourism, law, the environment aims to go one step further in changing the status of biking and viewing of this vehicle to society.

The bicycle is a means of transport because of its characteristics: small, lightweight, economical, clean, quiet, healthy, positively contributes to congestion in the cities at the same time promotes the health of people.

The days of Congress are considering and proposing new policy perspectives that are in line with developments taking place in social awareness that cycling is an alternative means of transport that contributes to sustainability and that makes our cities more friendly; while favoring the use of the vehicle, one of the spearheads of the proposed mobility against climate change.

Congress has created a space to discuss two key issues for the development of cycling: infrastructure and legislation.

You must enable infrastructures that enable the safe use of bicycles in cities.

The momentum in the use of this mode of transport has meant the need to devote efforts to the design of this type of action and other issues arising.

Lorca in recent years has seen significant progress in the implementation of infrastructural facilities for cycling, both within urban and interurban.

There are several different initiatives that already are a reality in Lorca: the ciclocalle, linking the bike lane Torrecilla, and runs from the rotunda of the San Antonio district, using the underpass, up the rotunda of Alfonso X the beginning of the street Pérez Casas, the bike path that runs along the road Lorca-Puerto Lumbreras, with the center of the city through Granada Road, providing safer alternatives to this means of transportation and greenway that being finalized to run in the districts of the garden.

To highlight the project in the region of inter-linking Guadalentín Puerto Lumbreras to Alhama de Murcia through the N-340, are some examples of this important development.

This and certain legislative proposals that result in the security guarantees required for this type of transport are some of the challenges of the 3rd Congress to which they are called, perhaps the first time, civil engineers and architects, technicians, traffic and public works Traffic agents and designers, law enforcement, attorneys and lawyers, deputies and senators, MPs and political groups, students and teachers, bicycle users, municipalities and all those who have been making these days their knowledge and experiences in different open workshops.
